Ebola : Government orders ports officials to increase surveillance

The Federal Government has ordered port health service officials at the points of entrance into Nigeria to increase surveillance towards ensuring that all passengers entering into the country are tested.

Mrs Boade Akinola, the Director, Media and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Health, reveled this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.

According to her, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Abdulaziz Mashi, issued the directive in Lagos during facility inspection at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The inspection was to know the level of readiness in case of any emergency following the rumored Ebola threats in Lagos.

Mashi noted that the “Thermal Cameras” used to screen incoming passengers into the country are functioning perfectly.

He said “more doctors, nurses and other health officials will be deployed to the port health services at International Airports for day to day activities.”

Lastly, the permanent secretary appreciated the efforts of Lagos State Government on preparedness and surveillance system against the Ebola virus
